Stop Feeling Financially Lost: My Personal Roadmap to Help You Reclaim Your Purpose
Hey there. I’m David, and if you’re reading this, I want you to take a deep breath.
Maybe you’re 22 and drowning in student loans, or maybe you’re 65 and realizing your retirement "nest egg" looks more like a cracked shell. Perhaps you’re somewhere in the middle, working a 40-hour week and wondering why, despite your hard work, your bank account still feels like a leaky bucket.
Feeling financially lost is a heavy weight. It’s that low-grade anxiety that hums in the background of every dinner out, every Amazon purchase, and every conversation about the future. It feels like you’re wandering through a thick fog without a compass.
But here is the truth: being "lost" isn't a permanent state. It’s just a sign that you need a better map.
At Gaffney Consulting & Services, we believe that financial clarity isn't just about the math: it’s about your purpose. Today, I want to share my personal roadmap to help you stop the bleeding, clear the fog, and start building a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.
The Fog: Why We Get Lost
Most of us were never taught how money actually works. We were taught to trade time for dollars, pay our bills, and hope for the best. When life throws a curveball: a medical bill, a job loss, or just the rising cost of living: the "hope for the best" strategy falls apart.

When you lose your financial footing, you often lose your sense of purpose, too. You stop dreaming about what you want to do and start obsessing over what you have to do just to survive. Whether you are 18 or 80, that frustration is real. But the roadmap out is the same for everyone.
Step 1: The Truth Audit (Numbers Don't Lie)
You can’t reach a destination if you don’t know your starting point. This is the part most people avoid because looking at the numbers can be scary. But I promise you, the reality is never as scary as the "unknown" you’ve been imagining.
Start by tracking everything. Every single penny.
- Income: Not just your salary, but side gigs, dividends, or interest.
- Expenses: Categorize them into "Needs" (housing, utilities, groceries) and "Wants" (that third streaming service, dining out, the shoes you didn't really need).
- Debt: List every balance and every interest rate.
The goal here isn't to judge yourself. It’s to get a clear picture. In our 10X WP Coaching sessions, we often find that simply identifying "money leaks" can reclaim hundreds of dollars a month. That’s your first win.
Step 2: Reclaim Your "Why"
Once you see the numbers, you have to decide what they are for. Money is just a tool. If you don't give it a job, it will disappear.
Ask yourself: If money wasn't an issue, what would I be doing with my time?
For some, the purpose is leaving a legacy for their kids. For others, it’s travel, starting a non-profit, or simply having the peace of mind to sleep through the night.
When you align your finances with your purpose, "saving" doesn't feel like a sacrifice anymore. It feels like buying your freedom. This is what we call developing a better you.

The 10X Mindset: Shifting from Scarcity to Multiplied Growth
Most financial advice tells you to shrink your life. "Stop buying lattes," they say. While being responsible is key, at Gaffney Consulting & Services, we prefer a different framework: The 10X WP Coaching approach.
Instead of just trying to be 10% better at budgeting, we ask: "How can we 10X your results?"
- How can we 10X your mindset from scarcity to abundance?
- How can we 10X your efficiency so you earn more in less time?
- How can we 10X the impact your wealth has on your community?
This isn't about working ten times harder; it’s about working smarter and leveraging the 80/20 principle. Focus on the 20% of actions that give you 80% of your results.
Step 3: Systems for Success (The GCS WealthBuilder Academy)
Willpower is a finite resource. If you have to choose to be "good" with money every single day, you will eventually fail. You need a system.
In the GCS WealthBuilder Academy, we teach our members how to automate their success.
- The Emergency Buffer: Before paying off low-interest debt, build a small "life happens" fund. This prevents you from reaching for the credit card the next time the car makes a weird noise.
- The Rule of 72: Understand how compound interest works for you (and against you). We actually have a great breakdown of The Rule of 72 and You that simplifies this perfectly.
- Debt Reduction: Use the "Power of Income" to aggressively attack debt. Every dollar you stop paying in interest is a dollar you’ve earned for your future.

Reflection Prompts: Where Are You on the Map?
Take a moment to sit with these questions. Be honest with yourself: there are no wrong answers here.
- The "Check-In": On a scale of 1-10, how much anxiety do you feel when you open your bank app? Why that number?
- The "Dream": If you woke up tomorrow with zero debt and a guaranteed monthly income that covered all your needs, what is the first thing you would do?
- The "Block": What is the one financial habit you know is holding you back, but you’re afraid to change?
- The "Next Step": What is one small action you can take in the next 24 hours to gain more clarity? (e.g., printing your last three bank statements, calling a coach, or canceling one unused subscription).
You Don’t Have to Walk This Road Alone
The most common thing I hear from clients is: "I wish I’d started sooner."
Whether you’re just starting your career or you’re looking to make the most of your golden years, the best time to reclaim your purpose is right now. You aren't "bad with money": you just haven't been given the right tools yet.
